Robert works in private practice and is also a Teaching Fellow at the University of Auckland. He attends regular conferences both nationally and internationally, therefore he is up to date with the latest research and advancements in technology.

He has a specialty interest in advanced contact lenses (including keratoconus and orthokeratology/ ortho-k), ocular diseases and sports vision.

Contact Lenses

Robert has presented at contact lens conferences and has participated in clinical studies investigating contact lenses for those with the eye disease keratoconus and for orthokeratology (ortho-k).

As part of his position as a Teaching Fellow, Robert supervises and teaches the specialty contact lens clinic at the School of Optometry. Robert is also a member of the Cornea and Contact Lens Society (CCLS) and the Orthokeratology Society of Oceania (OSO). Additionally, Robert completed his masters in orthokeratology.

Medical Optometry/ Ocular Diseases

Robert is therapeutically qualified allowing him to prescribe a range of medications to treat various eye conditions (including eye infections, inflammations, allergies and other red eyes). He underwent further training to become one of New Zealand’s first board approved glaucoma prescribers and he also currently works for Counties Manukau District Health Board in the glaucoma clinic at Middlemore Hospital.

Robert has written articles on ocular allergies for Allergy New Zealand’s magazine.

Sports Vision

Sports vision focuses on eye safety and increasing an athlete’s performance by maximising their visual potential. Advanced sports vision training assesses and trains an athlete’s: central and peripheral vision, dynamic visual acuity/ eye tracking, hand-eye-body coordination, depth perception and visualisation.

Robert has worked with national sporting bodies, professional sport franchises and individual athletes and officials. He has also lectured on sports vision to national bodies and his masters degree looked at sports vision.
